Following the huge success of the 2012 World Handball Championships and the massive organisation which surrounded that event for the past two and half year period, the next major event which was pencilled in on the GAA Handball Ireland calendar had been the Irish Junior 40x20 Nationals.

This event was separated from the Adult Nationals back in 2010 and proved a tremendous success and will continue on this basis in the future. However, due to the major costs incurred for players, officials and families surrounding the World Handball Championships, a decision was made to postpone this event until early in the New Year 2013. A final date for the Irish Junior 40x20 Nationals will be confirmed following an Ard Comhairle meeting in November 2012 and will be issued in conjunction at that time together with the new Annual Clár for 2013.

The Irish Junior Nationals would also have been utilised to select the Official Irish Junior Team to compete in the USHA Junior Nationals in December but a decision has also been made not to send an official team to the US Junior Nationals in December 2012. This has been the policy in some of the previous World Championships years. The USHA Junior Nationals does take place in December 2012 in Chicago and we wish the organisers the best of luck in this event.

This official trip is something which is currently under review, as GAA Handball Ireland are looking at ways to best benefit our Junior Players going forward in terms of International progress and development, and a survey will be issued to Junior players and club/county/provincial officials in the coming month on the same issue for feedback.

Once again congratulations to all our players, officials and volunteers who ensured that the World Handball Championships in The Citywest Arena were such a resounding success.
